HILTON HEAD: If you think you've got a busy schedule, read this. Ninety-one year old Ed Fienning of Hilton Head starts his day with a prayer breakfast, then he plays piano at two nursing homes. In between, he fits in a few games of bridge... and that's on a slow day. But there's one thing Ed longed to do his whole life ... and he finally got to squeeze it in Tuesday. Ed got to go for a ride on a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Ninety-one years old and he doesn't skip a beat.
"I can still play the piano - and I love people. That's my life, Fienning said.
He's so on-key, even his shadow has a tough time keeping up with him.
With a sound so beautiful and only a list of titles to follow, there's no doubt Ed Fienning has an ear for good music.
"I have done this all my life, he said of playing music. I get relaxation out of it and I love doing it."
But to the maker of a million melodies, no song's as sweet as a Harley Davidson at full throttle.
"I just get excited when I hear them, he said. It's just like music. It lifts me up.
So with a little practice rev'n it up himself and a shopping spree to Harley him head to toe Ed Fienning fit himself for the ride of his dreams. Trading his walker wheels in for some that go a little faster and purr like a sweet lullaby.
"Whenever I've heard that thing on the road I just want to follow it, he said. "I can tell them when they're a mile off. I can hear that purr. It's just beautiful."
It's an experience in which he says he has no fear. Because after all, for thirty-something miles he had a constant chorus beside him that sings like a host of angels.
"Music's supposed to do that to you. If not, you ought not to listen to it, he said.
Ed's dream came true all because of an email his daughter wrote to the Never Too Late foundation, an organization that grants wishes for seniors and Savannah's Harley Davidson shop.
