Words from the "Wish Boy"

Welcome to the second issue of the Never Too Late Wish Report!  Thank you for the positive response and feedback to the inaugural Wish Report sent to you in December.

We received requests for several new speaking engagements from the first wish report. Some of you visited the Never Too Late web site (www.nevertoolate.org) and submitted wish request forms for elderly loved ones or for friends dealing with terminal illnesses.  We need for more of you to become "wish finders."

Thanks to Exact Target (the premier E-marketing company in the country), Never Too Late has the capacity to send broadcast e-mail messages to the volunteers and supporters of our wish-making cause.  Over a 1,000 people receive this Wish Report and we have added more names to the roster since last month.

Should you elect not to receive this E-newsletter in the future, just let me know and we'll take your name of our mailing list.

Recent Wish

The first wish of the New Year belongs to 94-year old Lloyd C. from Ferdinand, IN.  It has been a longstanding family tradition that Lloyd, as the patriarch of the family, takes his immediate family (all 25 of them) out to dinner at Christmas time.  Because of a life threatening heart condition, Lloyd was too weak to go out this past December.

An employee of the Scenic Hills Care Center (where Lloyd resides) contacted Never Too Late with an idea to have a meal catered into the long-term care facility for Lloyd and his family to enjoy. Never Too Late agreed to participate and the cheerful news sparked a rally in Lloyd! Rather than accept the offer of a catered meal, on January 6th, Lloyd mustered the energy to go out for dinner. Never Too Late covered the cost of the meals for Lloyd and his family at his favorite Chinese restaurant in Mauckport, Indiana (the restaurant contributed the soups, desserts and the Fortune Cookies).

Wish in the Works

Ms. Hattie M. turns 85 this year.  For the past 20 years, Ms. Hattie has served her fellow man as a participant in the Senior Companion Program. To qualify as a Companion, you must be over the age of 60, have an income that is below the poverty line and volunteer 20 hours a week to help other senior citizens stay independent enough to remain in their own homes.

This gracious lady never asks for anything, according to Ellen Brown, the Executive Director of the Senior Companion Program.  Just recently, however, Ms. Hattie shared with Ellen that she would love to visit her brother-in-law (now a widower) whom she hasn't seen since the 1960s.

The challenge is that the brother-in-law lives in Oahu (Hawaii).  The lowest airfare to the Islands would be approximately $500.00. Because of her age, Ms. Hattie's daughter would need to accompany her Mother on this arduous journey. With your help, Never Too Late would like to be able to fulfill this wish for Ms. Hattie by requesting donations of funds or frequent flier miles to assist in purchasing the airline tickets.

Please consider contributing to this and other wishes by visiting our donations center at: http://www.nevertoolate.org/Donations.htm or you can send a check or note to Never Too Late, 8538 Tidewater Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46236.

Remember, NTL is a registered 501c3 public charity and your contribution may be tax deductible - please check with your tax advisor.

More Wishes Needed

So far, we are not on track to achieve our goal of a wish a day, or 365 wishes a year. Yet, it's "never too late" to catch up to where we want to be, provided we have your help.  More than ever, we need for you to become a "wish finder" and bring us a wish for an elder treasure or for a terminally ill adult.

Submit your wish request by clicking here.

Once you get involved with one wish and see the joy you bring to someone's life, you will be "hooked" with a "helper's high" and want to become a regular "wish finder".
