No stranger to philanthropy, Bob Haverstick was raised to believe that every man and woman in his or her corner of the world has a moral obligation to be a steward of his or her time, talent and money. For a number of years, he was in charge of the corporate outreach program for a local company that donated over a half million dollars to various individuals and
organizations.
In early 1998, Bob, along with veteran radio producer Al Stone, began a radio program called Heart-to-Heart. The show's focus was broad, perhaps too broad - connecting any person with a need with anyone who wanted to help. But from Heart-to-Heart, Never Too Late was born.
While serving in the US Army Reserves (1968-74), Bob initiated a Gift of Life Campaign that resulted in acquiring several kidney dialysis machines for Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. One of the unique features of this remarkable campaign was that the money was raised using the old S & H Green Stamps and Top Value Stamps that were popular in those days.
Over the years, Bob has been active in many other fundraising campaigns, such as March of Dimes, The Leukemia Society, St. Vincent Hospital's Hospice (adopt a tree program), and the Emily Walk. He also has donated hundreds of hours of his own time working as a narrator for the Central Indiana Radio Reading Network and the Indiana History Project that provide programs for the visually impaired.
To date, Bob has had the privilege of recording four audio books: Herman B. Wells' "Being Lucky," two other books for the blind and physically handicapped; and most recently, "Born to Build," the biography of the legendary Indianapolis builder Gene B. Glick.
