It's Never Too Late - to Go Sailing!

October 21, 2008

What have been memories about the past became reality on one beautiful Autumn day.

Nina Emans (who turns 83 October 28th) has been a resident at the Meadows of Leipsic for just over one year. She has pictures of her past sailing experiences on her wall. She will soon have new photos of sailing to display.

Lori Taylor, a volunteer at The Meadows of Leipsic contacted the Harbor North Charters and Sailing School in Huron, OH and Never Too Late in Indianapolis, IN about arranging a sailing adventure for Nina. All were pleased to help.

So on October 20, 2008, Nina went sailing on a 39 foot Beneteau sailing vessel, named "The Current Flow" along the Lake Erie shoreline. She was accompanied by Meadows of Leipsic volunteer Tom Sustae and staff members, Dani Hiegel, Jason Goodwin and Lori Hogrefe. T.J. Wright, Charter Manager at the Harbor North Charters and Sailing School performed captain duties. What a wonderful early birthday present! "I feel so good I could cry!" Nina said of the experience.

Many thanks go out to T.J. Wright and Brock Halbeisen, from Harbor North Charters and Sailing School, who not only donated their time and money to help make this trip happen, but also made a contribution to Stein Hospice in Sandusky, OH. And Bob Haverstick, from Never Too Late was able to assist The Meadows of Leipsic in making this day possible. To learn more about Never Too Late visit them online at www. nevertoolate.org.
