Indianapolis - The wish of one man inspired an entire community, and even Governor Mitch Daniels, to help others in need Saturday morning.

The 90-year-old led the charge to give away more than 14,000 food items to hungry families in the Stringtown area of the city.

The people of Stringtown arrived with empty carts and hands. Ready to fill them with fresh produce, a baked loaf of bread, but mostly to receive the gift of love.

Lucious Newsome can't believe his dream came true. Through an organization called "Never Too Late", Lucious is feeding 1000 people in need.

Never Too Late organizer Bob Haverstick said, "Today, for Lucious, in one day, a thousand wishes take place simultaneously."

"Everybody, pick a station. We're gonna start shortly," said Newsome.

For nearly two decades the retired minister has served people in the Stringtown area.

Newsom said, "The poor - you will have with you always - but whatever you do for the least of them - Jesus said, 'You do it for me.' Man, I'm serving Jesus."

Governor Mitch Daniels came to help Lucious deliver his good work.

"His whole life, teaches us the most important things are those we do for each other," said Governor Daniels.

Lucious may be 90 years old but he can still lead a crowd with incredible energy. He even helped build Anna's House, a future Community Center for Stringtown.

Govenor Daniels said, "Governments don't build great states, people do. The greatness of our state will always be in the hearts of people like Lucious Newsome."

Inside a house being remodeled near the intersection of New York and Elder, the second part of his wish is coming true. A community center will open next month offering free medical services, tutoring and job training. Lucious is quick to point out there will be no game playing in here.

"No Games. We're gonna prove that a good education will keep you out of poverty," said Newsome.

That is his ultimate dream.
