Wishes
Fulfilled:
Bob Haverstick writes about a couple of wishes NTL was able to make happen in August - September 2003:
Rosie Wanted to Be in Announcer's Booth with Bob Lamey at Colts Game
- Wish Fulfilled, 8.21.2003
Back in January of 2003, Bob Lamey, the voice of the Colts, and his lovely wife, Kim, paid a visit to Rosie S. at her apartment in Zionsville. Rosie suffers with arthritis and severe osteoporosis, so rather than attempt to take her to a winter Colts game, we brought the Colts to her. Bob was so taken with Rosie and her knowledge of the team that he mentioned she should be in the Announcer's Booth with him.
A man true to his word, Bob arranged for Rosie and the apartment manager, Karen, to join him in the Announcer's Booth on August 29th. Bob provided tickets for Rosie, Karen, and John Brewer, the official NTL limousine contact. We asked John to bring Rosie to the game and be on standby, in case her osteoporosis caused her too much pain.
Maybe it was the magic of the evening, being a special guest in a place where very few outsiders get to go, but whatever it was, Rosie was pain free for the evening. She even stayed for the entire game, which no one believed would happen going into the evening.
NTL was out of pocket only $150.00 for the roundtrip limo ride. John Brewer donated his time for the rest of the evening to be on call just in case Rosie needed him.

78 - Year Old Woman Rides in a Two-Seat Dragster
Eloise O. has invited me to speak twice at her Hamilton County Extension Homemaker's meetings. At the last meeting, in June of this year, she told me that she had a wish-she had always wanted to "go fast" in a car at a drag strip.
I contacted Al Stilley, the Southside Times Editor who knows everyone in the racing world, and he connected me with Scott Smith at IRP in Claremont. It just so happened that Castrol was renting out the track for a promotion of a new, synthetic hi-performance
oi, and they were bringing Frank Hawley into town to give rides to the media in his two-seater drag car. I then contacted Frank Hawley, who talked with the Castrol people, who put me in touch with their PR people, Ogilvy Public Relations out of Chicago.
Dick Wolfsie said that he would profile the drag racing wish live on his AM Channel 8 segments, and the PR folks encouraged the Castrol reps to get out of bed at 5AM for that kind of free publicity. At 7:15AM, Eloise and Frank roared down the track at IRP at 160MPH, and then at 10:30AM, she went for another ride, after being interviewed by Rich Nye at Channel 13. Finally, at 12 Noon, she stood in the center of 6 powerhouse racers like Juan Pablo Montoya and had her picture taken by at least a dozen different media sources. She was Powder Puff Drag Racing Queen For A Day! All the people involved donated their services to make this fun-filled wish happen-no cost to
